Root Canal Treatment

It is the most important to keep your natural teeth if possible, as when tooth are missing, the neighbouring teeth can drift and can be overstressed. It is also cheaper to keep a natural tooth as long as you can as later on, when lost, more extensive and expensive treatments have to be performed. If you do not visit your dentist with a root canal problem, if it is avoided for a long period of time you can not only loose the tooth but the infection can spread to other parts of your body.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is a very important procedure to save a tooth.  During this procedure  our dentist removes the pulp of the tooth. The pulp can be found in the centre or canal of both the tooth crown and root. The pulp is a living tissue, such as nerves and blood vessels inside the tooth.

When root canal treatment is needed?
If the tooth has been injured the pulp can become infected. The tooth infection can cause an abscess which can cause pain as it presses on the nerves in the pulp of the tooth. When it occurs a visit to the dentist is essential.

What will happen during root canal treatment?
On the first visit to us (might need more than one visit), our dentist numbs the side of your mouth with local anaesthesia and remove the diseased pulp. The tooth is cleaned out and the canal is filled with a small cotton ball which has medicine in it. Short-term filling is placed in and many times antibiotics is given to get rid of the infection.
During the second visit the short-term filling is removed then the canal is filled and sealed. When the pulp is removed the tooth becomes dead and will be weaker than living tooth, can break more easily. It is often advised to have a crown on the treated tooth which might be placed on the second or third visit.
